I love autumn. My birthday falls halfway through, Halloween and Bonfire Night are in autumn and that means lots of yummy food, fireworks and fires.
A couple of years ago, my mum made some of the most amazing Parkin. This year we are on a gluten-free thing so we can’t have the usual food for this time of year but for Halloween mum made a really nice pumpkin pie alternative. And of course there are all the sweets and toffy apples and cinder toffy and so on…. I never actually get to eat a lot of that stuff as I am dairy intolerant and keep my sugar levels down, but the things I do have are always amazing.
There are always fireworks going of for miles around come this time of year and two nights our neighbours had a good little show. It was quite funny, I was eating dinner at the table and suddenly there was a big white flash followed by a big loud bang and I literally jumped out of my skin.
And then after the fireworks were finished we had a black out. All the lights went of here and in our neighbours house for about a minute. It was actually quite scary.
We always have a bonfire for the 5th of November. Although I’m actually quite nervous of fire I do love watching the flames lick round the logs and boxes and the smell of smoke as long as it doesn’t get in my hair and eyes.
In my house we actually have three open fires downstairs, although we only use one, and in the kitchen we have a Rayburn. This means that downstairs is always warm and cosy which recently I LOVE.
And then usually because of all the events going on, friends are hosting parties. And normally I go to those except for this year.
Aside from all of that, I love the colours, the smells and the crispness of autumn. The leaves falling from the trees in an array of reds and yellows and oranges and browns and greens. The smell of leaf litter, mushrooms and damp. And the crisp, clear, coldness of the air, causing my breath to gather in little puffs of clouds.
I seem to be on a roll! Ok I need to stop with that…
I want to thank every one who liked my posts on the 31st because…..
On Tuesday October 31, 2017, you surpassed your previous record of most likes in one day for your posts on StableStoreys. That’s pretty awesome, well done!
Most Likes in One Day
Current Record: 9
Old Record: 8
So I know that an increase of one like isn’t that amazing but it was a nice suprise in my inbox… Thankyou guys!
Also, did you guys have a good Halloween? I watched Sixth Sense for the first time with my mum and absolutely loved it!
I hope you all liked this post, it was written last minute off the top of my head in very little time.
Call out. Call loud: ‘I’m ready! Come and find me!’
The sacks in the toolshed smell like the seaside.
They’ll never find you in this salty dark,
But be careful that your feet aren’t sticking out.
Wiser not to risk another shout.
The floor is cold. They’ll probably be searching
The bushes near the swing. Whatever happens
You mustn’t sneeze when they come prowling in.
And here they are, whispering at the door;
You’ve never heard them sound so hushed before.
Don’t breathe. Don’t move. Stay dumb. Hide in your blindness. They’re moving closer, someone stumbles, mutters;
Their words and laughter scuffle, and they’re gone.
But don’t come out just yet; they’ll try the lane
And then the greenhouse and back here again.
They must be thinking that you’re very clever,
Getting more puzzled as they search all over.
It seems a long time since they went away.
Your legs are stiff, the cold bites through your coat;
The dark damp smell of sand moves in your throat.
It’s time to let them know that you’re the winner.
Push off the sacks. Uncurl and stretch. That’s better!
Out of the shed and call to them: ‘I’ve won!
Here I am! Come and own up I’ve caught you!’
The darkening garden watches. Nothing stirs.
The bushes hold their breath; the sun is gone.
Yes, here you are. But where are they who sought you?
Look at me, two weeks posting in a row! I honselty have shocked myself XD
Sooo! I decided to post the above poem by Vernon Scannell today as I love it. As I am taking English Literature, I am currently reading a lot of poems and although I’m not a big fan of poetry this one really grabbed my liking.
I also thought that it was appropriate as it is slightly creepy and spooky; perfect for this time of the year 😉
I’m not going to do an analysis today as I honestly hate analysing poems but if I do write one in my lessons, I will post it.
What do you think of Hide and Seek? Does it make you shiver a little at the end? It does me.
Sorry for the weird, short post guys, I’m short of time.
What are your plans for Halloween? What are you dressing up as?
I, myself am going to be sat at home, alone, possibly carving a pumpkin alone as I have no friends who can come over. :‚(
Just a little bonus post here. I would absolutely love it if you guys could just take a couple of minutes out of your day to take part in this survey. It just asks some questions about your thoughts on this blog. Please be honest, I need the feedback 😉
Thankyou to all of you who take the time to fill this out, your say matters a lot to me.
SO about three weeks ago it was my birthday! and i thought I would do a little (or should I say massive) birthday haul for you guys seeing as I keep talking about branching out my content.
I just want to put a disclaimer here: I am not posting this to show off or brag about the things I’ve got. I merely wish to share with those of you who might be interested 🙂
SO! The first things I was given were from my mum and they were a lovely locket with a Pegasus on it from a company called ? and a box of chocolates. I have no idea what I’m going to put in the locket though
She also got me two new books, The Horsman by Tim Pears and The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden, a couple of days after my birthday. I am very excited to read them 🙂
Then from a family friend who came to spend my birthday with us gave me some really cool presents.
He gave me a little wooden bowl with a green silk scarf in it, A jar of cashew butter, a little USB hub that looks like a little person (I named him Bob) and an awesome vintage radio times pullout magazine about DR who from the eighties!!! How cool!?
A friend also sent me a bracelet and a little owl brooch in the post.
The bracelet at the top is the one she sent.
Our neighbour also got me some storage boxes which I’m really glad about actually.
Then the day after my birthday, my step dad (he’s not really and I don’t like calling him that but there is no other way to describe him other than my mum’s partner but then that makes it sound like I hate him…) bought me a brand new Patagonia rucksack that is soooo nice!
THEN! three days after my birthday, my aunt took me out for a day in town. Originally we were going to get my ears pierced but it turned out I needed photo identification so… We ended up doing a mahoosive! shop.
The first thing we found was a phone case for my phone. Admittedly it is bright pink but it’s better than nothing.
Then we went into HMV first and I got Taylor Swift’s albums Red and 1989 and One Direction’s album Made In The AM
Then we headed to Clares where I got a pair of fake glasses, two aqua hair extensions, a flower crown, a red checked bandanna (which sadly I don’t have a photo of) and two packs of bracelets.
Next we headed to LUSH And I bought their Pumpkin bath bomb, Dragons Egg bath bomb and their Butterbear bath bomb.
He’s so cute!
And then finally we enterd Primark. At this point I got a bit excited in the home section and picked out a pair of cat headphones, a mini cinema light box and a box of copper wire fairy-lights.
The next day we did some more shopping and I ended up getting some new pins in Paperchase.
Then I got a phone tripod, some nail decor, a couple of notebooks and three jars of copper stationary essentials from Home Bargains.
I also went into Boots and got Zoella’s Weekly Goals desk planner, This Is Your Year desk calendar and her Cosy Vibes mug.
Other presents that I got from family members are Zoella’s book Girl Online which is amazing! an owl necklace and a new wash bag.
I also bought a new hairbrush, some Wilkos stationary, a Health and Happiness Planner and the DVD of BBCs Sherlock season one.
I did get some clothes but not many. I got a nice autumnal top with a black lace collar from a charity shop, two t-shirts, one grey with feathers and one pink with unicorns and then an autumnal coloured shirt.
I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it and I will see you all next week!
Today I have a very special post for you. Well it’s special in my opinion. I have done a collaboration with Tabi Bee!
We decided to do a casual interview for you guys to read. Sooo I hope you enjoy!
So tell me, why did you decide to start your blog Busy Bee?
I had a website before, but it was a bit of a random mess…soo after watching a crafty programme where someone on there was a craft/DIY blogger I think I just sort of decided that’s what I wanted to do because I love creating things!
Awesome! How did you come up with Busy Bee as the name of the blog?
I actually have a whole post on this, but to put it short- ages ago I used to always make little magazines with crafty stuff in them, and I called it Busy Bee, but also because I’m always making things and being creative 🙂
How do you come up with ideas for blog posts and which post is your favourite so far?
Hmm this is a tricky one because it’s normally something completely random that has popped into my head- but I like to write them all down in the notes app for when I don’t know what to write haha
I was wondering, what do you use to create your post title images?
I use Canva- it is free and super amazing!
Cool, I’ll remember that. Now. IMPORTANT QUESTION! Do you watch much YouTube and if so what channels do you watch?
If I’m watching YouTube it’s normally a lot of DIY channels and vloggers
Same! Ok other than your blog what social media sites do you use if any?
Instagram page >>https://www.instagram.com/tabithebear/
Twitter >> https://twitter.com/Tabithebear
Go follow her guys! So what kind of music do you listen to?
Pop? Things like Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, I also love Despacito (who doesn’t ahah)
Do you think social media is affecting young people’s mental health and/or making young people more self-conscious?
I feel like it can do /and does a lot, because of all the pressure to have it and get likes/follows etc, but it can also have a positive impact on a lot of people too by discussing politics, for example, and finding inspiration.
Do you think it’s important that people using technology like us bloggers, think about how technology can be sustainable for the future or do you think that that’s the job of the companies that manufacture the technology?
I think it’s definitely up to EVERYone to do what they can to protect the future- especially when it comes to electronics, even the little things like turning off your devices when they’re not in use, and dimming the screens when they aren’t needed.
What are you views on global warming and how do you think we as a society should be dealing with it?
As a lot of my followers already know, I am so so passionate about the environment- and believe that we should all and CAN all help to do small things each day that add up and make a huge impact. As a society we should be not ignoring what is going on- and thinking that ‘charities and other people can handle it’, but actually going out and making the difference.
Ok time for some this or that questions
Cats or Dogs?
Books or Movies?
BOTH, DON’T MAKE ME DECIDE !
Drawing or Photography?
Drawing 100% – I might not even have anything to photograph if it wasn’t for drawing!
Beach or Forest?
Forest! I love forests and trees 😉
Cactuses or Succulents?
Would you rather:
Be in a cave of Spiders or Snakes?
Snakes – spiders would be crawling all over you (agh) but honestly neither !!
Speak any language fluently or be able to speak to animals?
Omg?! Be able to speak to animals! It would be amazing to know what they think and they can understand you!
Have Wings or a Tail?
Wings – when I was really little i always wanted to be able to fly without wings, but wings are fine hehe 😉
Have no Elbows or no Knees?
No knees – you could still walk just a bit differently!
Own a Rabbit sized Elephant or an Elephant sized Rabbit?
A RABBIT SIZED ELEPHANT WOULD BE THE CUTEST THING. And i think an elephant-sized rabbit might squish me…!!
I agree. A rabbit sized elephant should be a thing. The Pygmy Elephant!!!
Tabi, thankyou so much for answering my questions!
It has been SO fun, so thank YOU for interviewing with me!
It’s been so nice working with you 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this post everybody, I have loved putting it together.
Tabi’s blog Busy Bee is such an amazing place so you should so go over there 🙂 She has done a post interviewing me here so check that out.
I will resume my usual posting schedule on Saturday, so see ya all then!
So todays post was going to be behind the scenes of my recent photoshoot but then I found a comment in my inbox telling me that I had been nominated for the Blogger Recognititon Award!
The rules that coincide with this award:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
- Make a post about the award – I mean…. Who wouldnt???
- Give a brief recap of how your blog began
- Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers
- Select 15 other bloggers you wish to give the award to
- Comment on each blog, letting them know of their nomination and providing a link to the post.
If you like miniatures and model horses you should so go check her blog out. She also does a lot of crochet 🙂
StableStoreys started about two years ago when I realised that I was spending too much time playing virtual horse games instead of using the internet to let my creativity and love of horses big and mini be known to the world.
I started out with mostly model horses and now and then some real horses but now I kind of add little bits of other craft and life stuff in there.
StableStoreys has led me to make quite a few internet friends and also to get into YouTube.
Now for some advice: (Warning: My advise may be a bit crap)
- It’s a good idea to really try to make your blog or website name relate to your content. If you are blogging about craft don’t name your blog something like ”Fishnets and camping” Sorry bad example 🙂
- Try to use any social media you use to your advantage. Post links to your blog and put up sneak peeks.
I might not actually be following fifteen blogs but lets see:
cedarwoodstables at CWS Stables & Studio
Nichelle at Desktop Stables
Tricia at TriciaBookerPhotography
Karen at Draw and Shoot
Leah at shoestringstable
Roxanne at the Magical Canopy
Clock Work Dragons at Clockwork Dragon Designs
Inky at InkyOcean
Scroll Vault at ScrollVault
Scroll Quest at ScrollQuests
Lorrie at The Eff Stop
Rebekah at HorsFeathersBlog
I can’t express how pleased I am to have received two blogging awards for this blog. I never thought I’d get noticed that much XD
